ACUTE EFFECTS OF ZUMBA EXERCISES ON PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES IN WOMEN

Yıl 2023, Cilt: 17 Sayı: 1, 46 - 55, 23.03.2023

This study was conducted to examine the acute psychophysiological responses of healthy women to Zumba exercises. 102 healthy sedentary young women (age=24.78±1.58; Height=160.87±5.49; weight=71.12±6.44; body mass index=27.56±3.00) voluntarily participated in the study. In the research, perceived difficulty scale, mental fatigue scale, mental readiness scale, enjoyment scale and Brunel mood scale were used. Skewness and kurtosis values were examined to determine whether the data were normally distributed. T-test was used for the results of the participants before and after the exercise. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between continuous variables. It was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the groups in the sub-dimensions of the Brunel mood scale anger, confusion, depression, and tension (p<0.05). There was no statistical difference in the sub-dimensions of fatigue and vigour (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant relationship between cognitive anxiety and enjoyment (r = .355; p<0.01), between somatic anxiety and enjoyment (r = .391; p<0.01), between self-confidence and enjoyment (r = .441; p<0.01), and between mental fatigue and enjoyment (r = -.637; p<0.01). As a result, it has been observed that acutely performed Zumba exercises have a positive psychophysiological effect on healthy young women. It has been determined that young women experience a decrease in their negative moods and increase in pleasure and self-confidence after zumba exercises.
